ICH’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program is designed to provide students with the precise set of skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in this growing field of healthcare. Under the guidance of skilled faculty and through a combination of coursework, clinical labs, and an externship, students learn theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on skills to understand medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and physics and work with specialized equipment.
Courses in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program include:
- Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology
- Introduction to Ultrasound Physics
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Cardiac Sonography
- Patient Care and Communication
At ICH, students receive hands-on training to complement the classroom instruction through access to the innovative SonoSim training technology. SonoSim offers state-of-the-art training modules that complement students’ training by providing remote hands-on ultrasound training, didactic instruction, and assessment. SonoSim utilizes the world’s largest online library of actual patient cases with a broad spectrum of normal and real pathologic conditions, so students are able to simulate real-world experiences. The SonoSim program offers students immediate probe-positioning guidance and expert feedback while scanning real-patient cases. Additionally, ICH students also receive on-the-job experience in a real-world setting through an Externship.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program can be completed in 101 weeks (morning/afternoon classes) or 117 weeks (evening classes). Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Diagnostic Medical Sonography diploma. Many ultrasound technicians/digital medical sonographers find positions in public and private hospitals; others work in private practices, physician ofﬁces, medical and diagnostic laboratories and outpatient care centers.
