Diana Rosas, Medical Assistant (MA) program
Diana Rosas is a student in ICH’s Medical Assistant (MA) program. Diana chose ICH for her Medical Assistant training because ICH offered a focused program that is achievable in a short amount of time. Diana says, “The reason why I chose to go to ICH was because it’s a fast program but at a good pace, I learn a little about everything.” Diana went on to say, “Some of my favorite topics I’ve learned so far are phlebotomy, and dermatology.”
Diana’s Instructor Teri Weller chose her for the featured student spotlight because she has shown tremendous growth and progress since beginning in the program. Weller says, “My choice was based on (Diana’s) progress, attitude, professionalism, attendance, and willingness to be the patient.” Weller elaborated by saying, “Diana has grown so much from her first day at Integrity, she was a very shy, quiet, individual, and now with her newfound confidence and focus she is really becoming a leader.” As her instructor, Weller is confident Diana has what it takes to be successful. She said, ”(Diana’s) attendance, determination, and attitude are telltale signs Diana will achieve much success within her chosen career path.”
In ICH’s Medical Assistant program, students like Diana learn to perform the essential skills needed for entry-level employment, including phlebotomy, measuring a patient’s vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration, setting up and assisting the physician with minor office surgeries, gynecological exams, and other diagnostic procedures. Because the medical assistant role often encompasses clerical tasks as well, ICH’s MA program also teaches students to handle administrative duties including front office management, appointment scheduling, verifying patient information and health insurance, updating and filing patients’ medical records and insurance paperwork.
Students in ICH’s MA program benefit from practicing the skills they learn in a real-world setting. Using a simulated exam room and reception desk, students can check in patients using a common Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, escort patients to the exam room, and perform diagnostic testing in preparation for the doctor’s examination. Through hands-on, supervised practice, MA students are prepared to excel in their externship placement, demonstrating what they have learned and their potential for employment.
After completing their program, ICH graduates enter the job market with confidence, thanks to the support of ICH’s Career Services department. Integrity College of Health is committed to assisting our program graduates in the pursuit of stable, rewarding employment, and the Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services, including resume writing assistance, job searching and networking, interviewing skills, and comprehensive job placement assistance. While the school cannot guarantee employment upon graduation, ICH instructors and Career Services staff consistently seek to assist students with employment opportunities prior to and after graduation.
