Sandra Mejia, Medical Assisting (MA) program

Sandra is a student in ICH’s Medical Assisting (MA) program. A dedicated and hard-working student, Sandra shared with us her favorite motivational quote, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”

Sandra’s instructor, Teri Weller, ICH’s MA Program Director and lead MA instructor, has been impressed with Sandra’s work ethic and motivation towards completing her program. She was especially impressed by Sandra’s concurrent enrollment in the ECPP program, which enabled her to complete her high school requirements and earn her diploma, all while working on her MA program. Weller said, “… Sandra has not only completed her high school curriculum but her MA modules and is now in Career Development getting ready to go on extern. Her attendance and grades are fantastic. She also has plans on entering the VN program after she completes her externship as well as continue to work as an MA throughout her education at ICH.”

The Medical Assisting Program at Integrity College of Health

In ICH’s Medical Assisting program, students like Sandra learn to perform the essential skills needed for entry-level employment, including phlebotomy, measuring a patient’s vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration, setting up and assisting the physician with minor office surgeries, gynecological exams, and other diagnostic procedures. Because the medical assistant role often encompasses clerical tasks as well, ICH’s MA program also teaches students to handle administrative duties including front office management, appointment scheduling, verifying patient information and health insurance, updating and filing patients’ medical records and insurance paperwork.

Students in ICH’s MA program benefit from practicing the skills they learn in a real-world setting. Using a simulated exam room and reception desk, students can check in patients using a common Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, escort patients to the exam room, and perform diagnostic testing in preparation for the doctor’s examination. To provide students with the real-world training they need, each MA student is placed in an externship, empowering them to demonstrate what they have learned and their potential for employment. Through hands-on, supervised practice, MA students are prepared to transition seamlessly into their future positions.

After completing their program, ICH graduates enter the job market with confidence, thanks to the support of ICH’s Career Services department. Integrity College of Health is committed to assisting our program graduates in the pursuit of stable, rewarding employment, and the Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services, including resume writing assistance, job searching and networking, interviewing skills, and comprehensive job placement assistance. While the school cannot guarantee employment upon graduation, ICH instructors and Career Services staff consistently seek to assist students with employment opportunities prior to and after graduation. At ICH we are committed to offering both a quality educational experience, and individualized job placement assistance, so graduates can utilize the knowledge and skills they have gained to successfully enter their chosen career fields.
