Why Train for a Career as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer?
Diagnostic medical sonographers are an important, integral part of the medical care diagnostic team. Also known as ultrasound, diagnostic medical sonography is a painless and harmless medical procedure with no radiation, and diagnostic medical sonographers are the trained medical professionals who specialize in using this sophisticated equipment. Diagnostic medical sonographers direct high frequency sound waves into a patient’s body to produce images of internal organs, soft tissue, and blood vessels, as well as observe developing fetuses in the womb.
Integrity College of Health’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program at Integrity College of Health (ICH) is designed to prepare students with the precise set of skills and knowledge necessary to enter this growing field of healthcare. ICH is accredited through the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), and is licensed by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). What Will I Learn in ICH’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program?
Under the guidance of skilled faculty and through a combination of coursework, clinical labs, and an externship, students in ICH’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program learn theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on skills to understand medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and physics and work with specialized equipment. Students learn how to:
- Verify patient history and health status

- Select and capture the best images, take measurements, and make calculations
- Evaluate tests and images relating to a patient’s condition
- Communicate with patients and physicians as needed
- Consult with medical professionals on patient results
Students in ICH’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program receive hands-on training to complement the classroom instruction through access to the innovative SonoSim training technology. SonoSim offers state-of-the-art training modules that complement students’ training by providing remote hands-on ultrasound training, didactic instruction, and assessment. SonoSim utilizes the world’s largest online library of actual patient cases with a broad spectrum of normal and real pathologic conditions, so students are able to simulate real-world experiences. The SonoSim program offers students immediate probe-positioning guidance and expert feedback while scanning real-patient cases. Additionally, ICH students also receive on-the-job experience in a real-world setting through an Externship in an off-site medical facility.
How Long Is ICH’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, and What Will I Get When I Graduate?
