Integrity College of Health, located in Pasadena, California, offers several training programs which are designed to train students for careers in growing healthcare fields. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, veterinary assistants are ranked among the fastest growing occupations in the United States. Veterinary assistants are a vital part of the veterinary team, and are specially trained to provide critical assistance and support to veterinarians, veterinary technicians and scientists. According to the BLS, employment for veterinary assistants is projected to grow 20% over the 2022-2032 decade – adding more than 23,000 new jobs to the economy (BLS 2023). As of 2023, veterinary assistants held about 114,800 jobs in the U.S. economy, with employment in veterinary offices, veterinary hospitals, research facilities, animal shelters, wildlife refuges, and zoos.

The Veterinary Assistant program at Integrity College of Health is a 35-week program designed to teach students the theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on skills to potentially enter this growing field. At ICH, students in the Veterinary Assistant program learn:

  • Exam room preparation
  • Maintaining and sterilizing surgical instruments
  • Intaking animals for exams
  • Feeding, bathing, and exercising animals
  • Restraining animals during procedures
  • Caring for and monitoring animals after surgery or treatment
  • Giving medications
  • Administering immunizations

ICH’s VA program provides hands-on training so that students gain practice in real life situations, rather than learning just from textbooks. Through a combination of quality curriculum delivered by experienced faculty, and hands-on practical experience, students gain the critical skills needed for their future positions. Hands-on learning takes place in on-campus labs, and every VA student also completes an externship with an off-campus community partner. In addition, ICH’s VA students have the opportunity to participate in the Wiggle Waggle Waggin’ Pet Adoption event, a fun and rewarding event hosted by the Pasadena Humane Society.

This was the third year that ICH partnered with the Pasadena Humane Society for the Wiggle Waggle Waggin’ Pet Adoption event. The event took place on February 17, 2024, in the parking lot at Integrity College of Health, 1460 N. Lake Ave Suite 102, Pasadena, CA. The event, which focuses on pet adoptions, featured a Vendor’s Village with more than 15 vendors, including pet toys, pet insurance, and a pet hospital. T’ena Health provided on-site glucose and blood pressure checks. The public was welcomed to stop by to meet the adoptable pets, visit with the vendors, and check out the ICH campus while there. The event also featured music, food, raffles, giveaways and fun!

In partnering with Integrity College of Health to host the Wiggle Waggle Waggin’ Pet Adoption event, the Pasadena Humane Society demonstrates the Pasadena community’s support for ICH’s Veterinary Assistant program. The Pasadena Humane Society is a community-supported animal resource center providing compassion and care for all animals. The Pasadena Humane Society has operated since 1903, offering lifesaving programs and services for animals and the people who love them in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The Pasadena campus provides shelter, dedicated care, and new beginnings for thousands of vulnerable animals every year. In addition to pet adoptions and foster, the Pasadena Humane Society also offers programs and services aimed at helping people care for and keep their pets, such as free and low-cost spay/neuter and vaccines, a pet food bank, and an animal support call center.
