What Will I Learn in ICH’s Medical Assisting (MA) Program?
Under the supervision of dedicated, experienced instructors, students in ICH’s Medical Assisting (MA) program learn to complete both front and back-office tasks, including:
- Greeting patients and answering telephone calls
- Scheduling appointments
- Verifying patient information and health insurance
- Updating and filing patients’ medical records
- Recording information in medical recordkeeping systems, such as the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
- Completing and filing paperwork such as surgical permission forms, health check forms and insurance paperwork
- Preparing the examination rooms
- Preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies
- Measuring patients’ vital signs
- Administering medications and injections
- Collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing
- Preparing the patient for any scheduled procedures, and answering any questions they may have regarding the procedure
Is ICH’s Medical Assisting Program Online or In-Person?
ICH’s Medical Assisting (MA) program is offered in a hybrid-online format; students learn classroom theory online, while completing hands-on training in on-campus labs. The Medical Assisting (MA) program also includes an externship component, in which students complete 160 hours in an externship placement, empowering them to practice their skills in a real-world environment.
This flexible hybrid learning model makes career training accessible even for busy, working students. With ICH, you can attend school to pursue your healthcare career dream, even while you work your current job and/or attend to family and caretaking responsibilities.
What Will I Get When I Complete ICH’s Medical Assisting Program?
ICH’s Medical Assisting program can be completed in as few as 34 weeks (morning/afternoon program) or 42 weeks (evening program)! Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Medical Assistant diploma as well as CPR and First Aid certification from the Red Cross. Upon completion of the program, graduates will also be prepared to test for nationally-recognized MA certification.
Does ICH offer Financial Aid to Medical Assisting Students?
Yes, ICH offers Financial Aid to those who qualify! ICH’s Financial Aid Office assists students in applying for any financial aid programs for which they are eligible, and can provide assistance with completing and submitting a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Can ICH Help Me Find a Job After I Complete the Medical Assisting Program?
ICH’s Career Services department offers placement assistance! The Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services, including resume writing assistance, job searching and networking, interviewing skills, and comprehensive job placement assistance.
